When a sweater stretches out of shape, you can try to restore it based on the material, with better results for natural fibers like wool or cashmere:
1. Warm water reset: Soak the sweater in 30℃ water with a neutral detergent for 10 minutes to soften fibers. Squeeze out excess water, lay it on a towel to absorb moisture, then gently stretch deformed parts (cuffs, length, etc.) back to their original size. Lay flat to air-dry, adjusting slightly during drying.
2. Steam shaping: Use a garment steamer or steam iron (on wool setting) to steam 10-15cm from the deformed area. While steaming, gently pull the stretched part in the opposite direction (e.g., shrink stretched cuffs inward) to reshape. Let it cool to set the shape. Synthetic fibers have poor elasticity, making restoration harder. Handle them gently. For severe deformation, results may be limited—prioritize warm water + manual shaping.
